When it comes to interior painting, a major wall color change will require at least two coats and be more expensive.
For exterior surfaces that have lots of peeling or require major repairs, a full prime coat may be required. This in addition to the extra prep work scraping, patching, and caulking makes for a more expensive exterior painting job.

Indeed, an added coat will help protect your home from the treacherous Sonora Desert sun and heat we get in Phoenix. Crash Of Rhinos Painting
Crash of Rhinos Painting was first issued their contractor license (ROC #233015) in 2007. Since then, Crash of Rhinos has had zero complaints filed. They only paint exteriors and they mention being “stucco painting experts”. Crash of Rhinos provides a 7-year warranty with their work and they require no down payment. Crash of Rhinos provides their clients a digital rendering of their home to help pick colors.
Client Reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and Homeadvisor
Crash of Rhinos Painting in Phoenix, AZ has excellent reviews. They have 5-star ratings on Google Reviews, Facebook, and Yelp with over a combined 490 reviews. On Home Advisor, they have “only” a 4.9-star rating with just shy of 100 reviews. Some of the reviews indicate that their pricing may be higher than average. In addition, a couple of reviews show that the estimate process may feel sale-sy. However, Crash of Rhinos clearly has the quality to back it up.
The Painting Estimate Process
This Phoenix painter had the fastest response time, taking only 24 minutes to respond to a website quote request. They were willing to look at the property without anyone there. However, they required access to the fenced-in backyard so we could not accommodate. Most importantly, Crash of Rhinos was booked 4 months out as of August.
Red Rock Painting
Red Rock Painting of Phoenix, AZ first received its contractor license in 2005 (ROC #210093). During this time, they have had zero complaints filed. The Phoenix-area company is certified to renovate properties that may contain lead. Also, they will do epoxy floors, a project that is typically hard to find a contractor for. In addition, they offer same-day paint services to commercial customers.
Reviews
Red Rock Painting in Phoenix has excellent reviews. They have:
- Google Reviews: 4.9-star rating, just under 100 reviews
- Yelp: 4.5-star rating, almost 30 reviews
- Facebook: 5-star rating, fewer than 10 review
There were a few reviews mentioning difficulties with the estimate process. For example, the estimator showed up outside the scheduled window.
My Paint Quote
Red Rock Painters called me about 6 hours after I requested the estimate. The company wanted to see the property before giving a firm quote. However, based on photos and home size they ballparked me at $5500 for the exterior. Likewise, the ballpark price for the interior paint job was between $3900- $4400.
In summary, Red Rock is another great choice for those looking for a well-established painter in Phoenix. Correspondingly, I liked their fast, same-day response and fair pricing. The biggest drawback was that Red Rock Painting had a 3 week wait time to start the work.
Prime Painting Phoenix
Prime Painting Phoenix was first issued a contractor license (ROC 331737) in 2019. They haven’t had any complaints filed. They offer same-day painting quotes, indicative of an easy estimate process. However, their site doesn’t seem to mention the paint brands they use, the down payment required, or any warranty information.
Customer Reviews
Prime Painting in Phoenix has solid reviews online:
- Google Reviews: 4.9-star rating, over 40 reviews
- Thumbtack: 4.8-star rating, over 30 reviews
- Yelp: 4.5-star rating, fewer than 10 reviews
It should be noted that the owner had a contracting license revoked by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors in 2015. Now, it’s not clear why this license was revoked. However, most critical reviews are older than two years. Also, the more recent reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Nonetheless, it is fair to say Prime Painting is deserving of a second chance at this point.
Paint Estimate Process
Immediately after requesting an estimate, I received an automated text with a link to scheduling the quote. Accordingly, I replied and asked if I needed to be there in-person. Three and a half hours later I received a response saying they need access to the interior for an accurate quote.
A Quick Note:
Did you know that Improovy has a location in Chicagoland? In case you are looking for a quality painter in the windy city, we offer fast quotes and are the highest-rated painter in Chicago history.
In summary, Prime Painting Phoenix may be a good contractor to work with. Just remember to clarify the type of paint used or if a down payment is needed. Likewise, it is a good idea to ask if a warranty or guarantee is included.
Arizona Painting Company
Arizona Painting Company’s contractor license was first issued in 2008 (ROC #251484). They have had one complaint filed with them since, which was resolved in April 2021. As one of the largest painters in the state, they’ve painted over 15,000 homes in Arizona. Also, Arizona Painting Company offers optional financing.
Painting Warranty
It’s worth noting that this companies warranty is a bit different from other Arizona painters. First, their Bronze Package comes with a 3-year warranty. The paint brand is unspecified, but it is acrylic paint. Next, their Silver Package includes a 5-year warranty. It uses acrylic paint from either Dunn Edwards or Sherwin Williams. Last, their Gold Package comes with a phenomenal 10-year warranty. The paint line is Sherwin Williams Duration, one of Sherwin’s top paints.
Reviews For The Arizona Painting Company
Arizona Painting Company has decent reviews. They have:
- Google Reviews: 4.5-star rating, over 300 reviews
- Yelp: 4-star rating, 170 reviews
- 1600+ reviews and a perfect 5-star rating on a site called “Customer Lobby”
There are many reports online that CL fabricates its reviews. In any case, we can’t hold it against Arizona Painting Company, assuming that they are unaware of what is going on.
AZ Painting Co Estimates
Arizona Painting Company was the second-fastest to respond. They called to schedule an estimate within an hour and needed someone to be home. However, they were able to ballpark a number just based on the square footage. I received a ballpark of “low three thousand” for the inside and “mid three thousand” for the exterior. On the other hand, the estimator failed to ask about ceiling height. Indeed, this would have driven the price to paint higher. As a result, you should take their ballpark quote with a grain of salt.
- Equally as important, they were booked about 4 weeks out.
Other Phoenix Painting Companies
In Phoenix, there are also a number of painting company franchises that have a digital presence. We’ve found that dealing with national painting franchises like Certapro painters, FreshCoat, or WOW1day can be hit or miss. More specifically, the quality of service often depends on the local branch manager you work with.
When hiring a company like Certapro painters in Phoenix, you should always ask for references and read their client reviews in detail.
