From custom painting jobs and wallpaper to popcorn ceiling removal and cabinet refinishing, Improovy is your trusted source for interior paint.
First, the most important step in the interior painting process is prep work. This includes covering floors and furniture with plastic or canvas drop cloths. Not only does this protect items in your home, but it makes the final clean-up easier.

Next, we will begin patching dings or holes in walls, performing drywall repairs, and caulking cracks as needed. This step also includes priming areas of water damage. Not to mention, sanding and refinishing surfaces like trim and ceilings. Certainly, many home interiors in Dallas have stucco textured walls. In these cases, we’ll also have to texturize patched areas to match.
Finally, we use the highest quality interior paint products from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore to coat indoor surfaces. This includes walls, ceilings, trim, baseboards, doors, and window casings.
Every surface may require a different product and sheen. Consequently, our expert painting project managers will recommend the best product for each. From faux finishes to replacing drywall, our incredible Plano house painting professionals have an unmatched attention to detail.

Home Painting Plano, TX

Plano Exterior Home Painting
Another popular service our residential painters perform in Plano, Texas is exterior painting. No questions, painting the exterior of your Dallas home increases curb appeal.
However, making your house look pretty is not the only function of exterior paint. Actually, paint is the first line of defense against the heat and storms of northern Texas each season. More specifically, regularly painting your Dallas exterior protects against wood rot. Similarly, regular repainting prevents costly water damage that occurs when you wait too long.
Our most frequent outdoor painting jobs in Texas include:
- Exterior Trim, Front Door, and Window Painting
- Painted Stucco Exteriors
- Painting or Staining Siding
- Wooden Deck and Fence Painting
- Brick Home Priming and Gutter Painting
- Home Soffit/Eaves and Fascia Painting
Home Painting Process in Plano, TX
Typically, painting a home’s exterior in Dallas and Plano starts with a proper wash-down of surface areas. Next, outdoor surfaces are prepped before coating. Without compromise, this ensures adequate paint adhesion. As you can imagine, this includes sanding, scraping, and priming areas of peeling paint and caulking cracks. Not to mention, all rotten wood should be replaced and sealed before you start painting.
Plano, TX area homes certainly have a lot of trim and siding sections near rooflines. These are often hard to reach and monitor for homeowners in DFW. As a result, they are more prone to mold and wood rot due to water damage. Hence, we clean these areas with a mold detergent that eliminates surface mildew.
Once all surfaces are prepped, we start taping and masking surfaces. Indeed, this protects window panes and roof shingles from paint splatter.
Finally, the painting begins. Accordingly, we recommend at least two coats on every Dallas-Fort Worth exterior project.
In fact, we only use the highest quality paint from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore on outdoor painting surfaces. This ensures your exterior paint job lasts for years. No doubt, we want your home to look beautiful over the long run. In particular, higher quality paint is thicker. Likewise, a thicker coat offers better protection against the sub-tropical weather we get in northern Texas.
How Much Do Painting Contractors Cost in Texas?
Texas painting contractor costs range from $2.92 to $4.31 per square foot. This equals an average price of $3.53 per sqft to paint a house exterior in Texas. By all means, this includes all paint materials, labor, and prep to hire a professional Texas painting contractor. For quality painters, around 40-60% of costs come from prep work. Indeed, prep is key to an outdoor painting project that lasts for at least 5 years.
Likewise, supply shortages caused by COVID-19 have resulted in more expensive paint materials. Not to mention, a trade labor shortage has led to pricier labor rates in Northern Texas cities. Recently, the average exterior painting job costs range from $5,818 to $7,946 in the Lone Star State. Here is a detailed breakdown of the true cost to paint a house in Dallas.

Dallas Texas Weather
Dallas weather conditions range from hot and humid summers to cold and windy winters. The hot season typically lasts from June to September with an average temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Indeed, Summers are humid and muggy in Dallas, Texas. In the same vein, August is the city’s hottest month with an average temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Meanwhile, the coldest months for weather in Dallas are November to February each year. Average lows in the winter are 35 degrees Fahrenheit. However, you‘ll see plenty of 50-60 degree days during cooler months so overall it‘s relatively mild. Luckily, snow is rare in Dallas but certain northern regions are at high risk for tornadoes. Typically, peak tornado season in Dallas occurs in October.
No question, these water conditions take a toll on any house in the DFW area. For homes in Dallas, and the North Texas region, it‘s recommended to paint your exterior every 5 years. Certainly, this ensures your house exterior is maintained, avoiding expensive repairs. Keep this in mind if your home has wood, vinyl, brick, stucco, or aluminum siding.

Best Residential Painting Contractors Plano, Texas
In rare cases, we may not be the perfect fit for all property painting projects. That’s why we’ve carefully selected the best alternatives to hire an Improovy painting pro below. These painting companies in Dallas all have good customer reviews. To be even more helpful to you, we tested their quote process to understand Dallas house painting prices and their value proposition. Let’s dive into our list of the next best painters in Dallas Texas. Overall, we believe these in-depth reviews by our experts provide more insight than Home Advisor, Angieslist, or Yelp.
DFW Painting offers full service painting to residential and commercial clients in North Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth, TX areas. They offer interior and exterior painting services as well as wallpaper installation, popcorn ceiling removal, faux finishes, and cabinet refinishing. Furthermore, their professional painters also do deck staining or painting, and drywall repair.
In terms of the quote process, we called to get a quote and left a voice message. It seems like a nice local and family-run Dallas painting company. Given that, DFW only uses subcontractors and does not have any employees but do not let that throw you off. When properly managed, the subcontractor model can produce a fantastic job result.
- Pros: 15 years in business, family-run company, decently rated on google and yelp, their subcontractors carry liability insurance, quick response, 2-3 week turnarounds, use Sherwin-Williams paints, written estimates
- Cons: No workers‘ comp coverage, no online or remote quote option, estimates require in-person sales pitch, 3.5% fee when paying via credit card, only warranty workmanship for 1 year, no warranty on crack repairs
- Painting Prices: Ballpark quote over the phone was $0.75-$2.00 per sqft for interior painting, $2-$5 per square foot to paint exterior siding
- Overall Rating: 4.23 out of 5 Stars
What concerns us about DFW painting is they didn’t confirm whether their contractors had proper workers’ compensation coverage. While liability insurance is important, it doesn’t protect you from getting sued if a worker falls off a ladder on your property. That’s why workers comp exists and without it, DFW is putting your home and your family at risk. To be fair, most painting companies in Dallas that use subs don’t require WC coverage. In any case, it’s worth noting they require a 35% deposit to get started.
Big Al’s Painting
Big Al’s Painting of Dallas is a painter located in Farmers Branch, Texas that offers a full range of painting services. Owned by Alex Davis, this painting service in Dallas has been around for 7 years and specializes in both residential and commercial painting. Another thing we liked is that they seem to cover most of the DFW metro area, including towns like Keller, TX, and South Dallas. Likewise, we love that Al’s is a family-run company that showcases its values and culture as a differentiator.
One of the highest-rated painters in DFW on google, they’ve earned 4.8 stars out of five with over 90 online reviews. Al‘s Painting Yelp and Angieslist ratings were really good as well.
Pros: family-run company, great reviews online, subs carry liability insurance, super responsive, fast turnarounds, specify paint used on the written estimate, the five-year warranty covers any peeling, bubbling, or chipping due to poor prep
Cons: Subs don’t seem to carry workers’ comp, deposit required seems a bit high (40%), not sure if there’s a fee on credit cards, one of our favorite painters in Dallas overall
Painting Prices: $13,400 for interior and partial exterior of 3,500 sqft home in Frisco
Overall Rating: 4.89 out of 5 Stars
Al‘s Painting uses both subcontractors and W-2 painting employees, depending on the crew you are assigned. They did mention that most larger painting companies in Dallas TX use subs. Again, they don’t require subs to have workers comp which is a risk most homeowners won’t love taking. Last but not least, Al’s requires a 40% deposit to begin and seems fairly cheap in terms of pricing.
Another larger painting contractor in the area is Dallas Paints. This professional painting company is centrally located in downtown Dallas and serves all nearby suburbs. Their service area is huge and includes Tarrant, Kaufman, Denton, Ellis, Dallas, Collin, and Rockwall counties.
One thing that concerns us about Dallas Paints is its online reviews. More specifically, they have a decent rating on Google but their Yelp profile only has a few reviews and is rated 3.5 out of 5 stars. Also, Dallas Paints is not BBB accredited but does have an A+ rating which is good.
- Pros: Use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, Salesperson was very nice once I finally got through
- Cons: Seems like a call center, no remote or online quotes, couldn’t verify if they require subs to have workers comp, also list that they use PPG Paints (lower quality), require an in-person sales pitch, no help with paint colors
- Painting Prices: No idea, they were not able to provide a quote online
- Overall Rating: 3.79 out of 5 Stars
When I called, I was connected to what seemed like a call center overseas. Also, I have no idea who owns this company or its story. Moreover, Dallas Paints seems to be listed as a business for sale so it may be a lead generation service. Overall, it was an odd experience trying to get a quote but they seemed on the cheaper side.
CertaPro Painters of Plano, TX
As mentioned, CertaPro Painters of Plano, TX is a branch of one of the largest painting companies in the nation. While we like that they use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint products, Certapro is built on the backs of hardworking subs. Certapro painter reviews in Plano and Dallas are good, with a 4.8 out of 5-star rating on google. Likewise, this Dallas painter also has some more online ratings on sites like HomeAdvisor and Facebook.
For some context, each Certapro Painting franchise location is operated by a local franchise owner. Furthermore, they only recruit franchisees from outside of the paint industry. As a result, you really have no idea how your paint job will go. Certainly, some Certapro locations are better than others. But since they don’t offer remote online quotes, I couldn’t get an estimate from their Dallas branch to compare.
Does a painter need a license in Texas?
There are no state license requirements to become a painter or painting contractor in the state of Texas. While this reduces the barriers to entry in starting a painting business in Texas, homeowners must be extra careful.
As a rule of thumb, you should always ask for proof of liability insurance coverage and workers’ compensation before hiring any Texas painting company. Most reputable painting contractors will be happy to produce insurance documents upon request.
Luckily, Improovy carefully vets and verifies the insurance of any painting team on our platforms. Moreover, we only select the top 5-10% of painters in the state of Texas. Our team has over 50 years of combined painting experience to ensure you get the most qualified and trusted painters for your project, guaranteed.
Platinum Painting of Frisco
Platinum Painting of Frisco is another full-service painting contractor in Dallas with locations in Tarrant County and northern Dallas counties. This independently-owned Frisco painting service is rated 4.9 out of 5 stars on Google with over 50 reviews.
- Pros: Use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore
- Cons: seem very old-school in terms of their quote process, responsiveness was okay
- Painting Prices: No clue, couldn’t provide a quote online
- Overall Rating: 4.12 out of 5 Stars
Similarly, they seem to have some great Facebook recommendations as well. Likewise, Platinum Painting in Frisco, Texas seems like a decently sized professional painting company that has grown since launching in 2008.
Southern Painting – Collin County
Southern Painting – Collin County is a franchise painter that has multiple locations across the state of Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Moreover, their Dallas location is one of the many DFW cities they serve in addition to San Antonio, Southlake, Richardson, Houston, and Austin. Accordingly, their specialties include residential house painting and small commercial office repaints. Lastly, Southern Painting performs light carpentry and covers Addison, East Plano, Lucas, Murphy, Wylie, and Sachse, TX.
- Pros: Use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, a larger franchise company backing, Southern Painting reviews are generally good
- Cons: Responsiveness was spotty, overall quote process confusing and inconvenient, no mobile or remote quotes
- Home Painting Prices: No clue, couldn’t provide a quote online
- Overall Rating: 3.47 out of 5 Stars
This franchise’s Dallas painting location is fairly new with only 18 reviews on Google with a 4.7 average rating.
One concern is that when I called Southern Painting of Collin County, it routed me to another overseas call center. Not to mention, they kept me on hold for 15 minutes and handed me off to a few different people. After all of that, they let me know they don’t do remote quotes for painting or handyman work.
Improovy Now Serves Tampa Florida!

Precision Painting Plus of Dallas
An interesting painting company with a DFW location is Precision Painting Plus of Dallas. When I filled out a form online, they called me back to say they weren’t available for estimates on Sunday. While this would be fine in most cases, their online listing said they were open on Sundays so it was odd hearing that.
Now, they say they provide mobile quotes but I was unable to get a written quote remotely. Notwithstanding, Precision Painting Plus of Dallas has decent ratings online with a 4.3 out of 5-star rating on google.
Five Star Painting of Dallas
Another large-scale painting franchise that serves DFW is Five Star Painting of Dallas. Located in Wylie, TX, Five Star Painters covers all of Dallas County and provides interior and exterior painting. Given that most franchises in the painting industry deploy the subcontractor model, we assume they do too. Likewise, they’ve been able to generate over 400 reviews on google with a 4.7 out of 5-star rating which is impressive.
A drawback of working with Five Star Painting of Dallas is that they explicitly do not provide remote quotes in their Richardson or Frisco location. This is despite the fact that Five Star’s website states otherwise.
360 Painting Frisco
When I called 360 Painting Frisco to get a quote, their phone operator let me know that they do not currently serve the Dallas area. I am not entirely sure why they still have a location listed on google and a live webpage. Obviously, the fact that they don’t provide painting services in Dallas, TX is an issue.
Let’s just move on to one of the largest painting franchises in the United States, CertaPro.
Wow1day Painting Dallas North
When trying to get a quote from Wow1day Painting Dallas, I learned that their DFW location serving Frisco, TX has recently shut down. Surprisingly, their online profile and website say they are open. This was yet another frustrating experience with a painting franchise in Texas that hasn’t updated its information online. After a brief conversation with their national hotline, I was left perplexed. Simply put, I can’t imagine a homeowner would be very happy about wasting their time reaching out and getting a response like this.

Our commercial painting crews in Dallas Fort-Worth are the best professionals available for your job. You can trust our experienced commercial painters of Plano, TX to arrive on time and do a quality job.
